Skit maker and singer Nasboi has urged Nigerians to show greater understanding toward celebrities who choose not to speak on political matters.
In a post shared on X, the entertainer questioned the constant pressure placed on public figures to comment on national issues, arguing that not everyone is comfortable taking such risks.
He pointed to the experience of comedian Mr Macaroni, who he said faced harassment after speaking out on issues affecting the public, only to later receive insults and criticism.
According to Nasboi, such experiences explain why some celebrities deliberately avoid political discussions, even when they are aware of ongoing national debates.
He stressed that silence should not always be interpreted as indifference, noting that individuals respond differently to public pressure and controversy.
Nasboi further compared celebrities to ordinary citizens who may also choose to stay away from politics, arguing that public figures remain human beings with personal boundaries and fears.
He wrote in part: “People wey get sense, make we reason this matter. Una dey always drag celebrities for not speaking up… You think say other celebrities no dey see all those things?”
He added that the backlash faced by outspoken figures discourages others from engaging in similar conversations.
His comments have since sparked discussions online about the expectations placed on entertainers in political and social debates, with opinions divided on whether celebrities should be compelled to take public stances on governance issues.
