Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has stated that he does not need recognition from the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) to validate his talent in the film industry.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the actor addressed ongoing discussions about his absence from AMVCA winners’ lists, insisting that awards do not determine an actor’s true value.
Edochie argued that decisions made by a select group of judges or organisers cannot fully reflect an actor’s ability or contribution to Nollywood.
The actor expressed confidence in his craft, claiming that some of his past performances remain unmatched by other actors years after their release.
According to him, he considers himself one of the strongest actors in the industry, although he avoids calling himself the greatest out of respect for his father, veteran actor Pete Edochie.
Edochie added that he has no grievances with AMVCA organisers and does not feel pressured by their selection process.
He also noted that he has never taken to social media to complain about awards or nominations, saying he remains focused on his career rather than industry recognition.
The actor said his priority is to consistently deliver strong performances, leaving audiences and critics to judge his work.
“Performances that I have dropped four, five, six years ago no actor has been able to replicate it till date. I am one of the greatest,” he said during the interview.
Edochie further stated that public opinion or personal criticism does not affect him, as he remains committed to improving his craft and delivering quality performances in every role.
He concluded that his sense of worth is shaped by his faith, dedication to work, and audience reception, rather than awards or industry approval.
