The family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has released details of his funeral arrangements, confirming that he will be buried on June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.
Ekubo died on May 11 at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer, according to an earlier statement from his family.
In a statement shared on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family described the late actor as a man remembered for his generosity, warmth, deep faith, and dedication to loved ones.
The statement, signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke, also expressed gratitude to the public for the support shown since the actor’s passing.
“The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling,” the statement read.
According to the funeral schedule, a service of songs will be held on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Guests attending the event have been asked to wear white.
A wake is scheduled for June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 in Arochukwu, followed by a reception at Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village.
The family previously disclosed that Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital after what they described as a brief but courageous fight against kidney cancer complications.
Born in Port Harcourt and originally from Arochukwu, Ekubo gained national attention after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition before establishing himself in Nollywood.
Over the years, he featured in several popular films, including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
Following news of his death, tributes poured in from actors, public figures, and fans across social media, celebrating his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
