Immigration authorities raise alarm over illegal migration routes and fake overseas job offers targeting young Nigerians…..
The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerians against travelling outside the country without valid travel documents, warning that irregular migration could expose citizens to exploitation, trafficking, and other serious dangers.
In a public advisory issued on Monday, the Nigeria Immigration Service said all Nigerians intending to travel abroad must possess valid passports, visas where necessary, and other officially approved immigration documents.
The warning was contained in a statement shared on X by DCI AS Akinlabi, spokesperson for the immigration agency.
According to the service, attempting to leave the country through unauthorised border routes or bypassing official immigration procedures violates Nigerian laws and could attract legal consequences.
The agency also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates allegedly targeting Nigerians with fake promises of jobs, education opportunities, and better living conditions overseas.
The immigration service warned that many of these illegal schemes often end in forced labour, human trafficking, exploitation, and other forms of abuse.
It stressed that no legitimate international travel arrangement operates outside recognised immigration channels or approved border entry and exit points.
The agency urged Nigerians, especially young people seeking opportunities abroad, to properly verify travel, recruitment, and relocation offers before making commitments.
Citizens were also advised to avoid unregistered travel agents and report suspicious migration activities to the nearest immigration office or relevant security authorities.
The latest warning comes amid growing concerns over irregular migration and the activities of criminal networks exploiting vulnerable Nigerians desperate to seek opportunities outside the country.
