José Mourinho was reportedly close to being unveiled as the new manager of Real Madrid CF before the club’s presidential elections forced a delay.
According to Record, preparations had already been completed for Mourinho’s official presentation.
However, the process has reportedly been suspended as club president Florentino Pérez faces an electoral challenge from Enrique Riquelme, who has opened campaign headquarters near the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Reports suggest Pérez would have secured re-election on Sunday without opposition, paving the way for Mourinho’s confirmation shortly after.
The Portuguese coach, who returned to Lisbon on Thursday, may now have to wait until June 7 when the election outcome is expected to be decided.
Should Pérez fail to retain his position, uncertainty could surround Madrid’s pursuit of Mourinho.
