Jim Iyke has opened up about the circumstances that led to the end of his marriage, linking the breakdown to a prolonged emotional struggle that affected his behaviour and relationships at home.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Nollywood star said he went through a difficult phase that left him without motivation, confidence, and his usual drive.
According to him, the emotional low altered his personality significantly, causing him to withdraw from his role as a husband while becoming deeply focused on parenting.
Iyke explained that during the period, he became a stay-at-home father who devoted most of his time and energy to raising his son.
While he described himself as highly committed to fatherhood, he admitted that he was unable to meet his wife’s emotional needs during that time.
He said his wife eventually expressed that she no longer recognised the man she had married.
The actor disclosed that he was honest about his struggles and told her he could not predict how long it would take for him to recover fully.
Iyke added that he asked for patience, but also acknowledged her right to make a different decision if she could not wait for him to heal.
“I lost my spark… I lost the lion and leader in me, and my wife suffered for it,” he said, noting that he became an “obsessive dad” who focused entirely on his son.
He further explained that while he excelled as a father, he fell short as a husband, a situation that created a growing emotional distance in the marriage.
According to him, his wife ultimately decided she could not wait for the situation to improve.
The couple later parted ways amicably, with Iyke saying they separated on friendly terms and without hostility.
