Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has appealed to influential Nigerians, including entertainers and traditional rulers, to publicly address the growing insecurity affecting Oyo State and other parts of Yoruba land.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the actress expressed concern over the increasing cases of attacks and kidnappings in the region, urging public figures to use their platforms and influence to amplify awareness.
According to Aiyeola, the worsening security situation should not be overshadowed by ongoing political activities and preparations ahead of elections.
She said residents in several communities were living in fear as insecurity continued to spread closer to home.
“This video is just to call the attention of well-influential colleagues with the platform, the connection and the voice, to please lend a voice to the masses,” she said.
The actress specifically mentioned several traditional leaders and celebrities in her appeal, including the Ooni of Ife, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Lagos monarchs, Lege Miami, Eniola Badmus, Laide Bakare, Desmond Elliot, Funke Akindele, and Toyin Abraham.
Aiyeola stressed that her message was not intended as criticism but as an urgent call for influential individuals to use their voices and connections to support affected communities and draw national attention to the crisis.
“This is closer to home than expected,” she added.
Her comments come in the wake of attacks in the Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where gunmen reportedly abducted pupils, students, and teachers from multiple schools.
The incidents have sparked widespread concern over the deteriorating security situation in parts of southwestern Nigeria.
