The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya, has emerged as the Katsina North Senatorial District candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party’s primary election.
He secured the ticket after scoring 78,394 votes to defeat his rival Ahmed Kabir Abdullahi, who pulled 2,274 during the APC senatorial primary exercise conducted peacefully across the 12 local government areas of the zone.
The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee in the state, Dr. Yakuku Machido, announced the result after receiving the official report of the exercise from the returning officer of the zone.
He explained that Yahaya polled 78,394 votes to defeat his opponent, Abdullahi, who secured 2,274 votes in the keenly contested primary election.
In his acceptance speech, Yahaya assured supporters that he would work closely with party leaders and grassroots mobilisers to ensure victory for the APC during the general elections.
