This week, Kenya co-hosted the Africa Forward Summit with France, bringing together thousands of delegates from across the continent in Nairobi. However, several celebrities and content creators invited to participate in the summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and President William Ruto, have faced backlash from a section of Kenyans on social media.
Often referred to as “cancel culture,” the phenomenon involves collective boycotts in which individuals or groups are publicly criticised and lose support from parts of their fan base over actions or associations considered undesirable or controversial.
