Nollywood actor Genevieve Nnaji is set to return to the screen after years away from acting, joining the cast of ‘Wahala’, a new drama series from BBC.
The broadcaster announced the casting this week, with the six-part series set for London. The show is adapted from the novel by Nikki May and written by Theresa Ikoko. It follows four Nigerian-British women as friendship, love and family life are tested by secrets from the past.
The project marks one of Nnaji’s major acting returns since Lionheart. After stepping back from acting, she continued working behind the camera and served as executive producer on I Do Not Come To You By Chance, based on the novel by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani.
Speaking about her role in the series, Nnaji said, “I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Ikoko also welcomed the project, saying, “I can’t wait to bring Wahala to life with this amazing cast, wonderful directors and brilliantly talented crew.”
Wahala, a Nigerian word for trouble, is being produced by Firebird Pictures as part of BBC Studios and will air on BBC platforms.
