The police in Busoga East have arrested three men accused of operating fake social media accounts impersonating First Daughter Natasha Karugire and Kampala businessman Hamis Kiggundu in an alleged online fraud and extortion racket.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Mugoya, 27, Ashiraf Kyakatuka, 22, and Asuman Isanga, 20. They were arrested on Wednesday night at around 11:00 pm during an operation conducted at Nampirika ‘A’ village in Nakalama sub-county, Iganga district.
According to police, the arrests followed a complaint lodged by businessman Hamis Kiggundu at Kiwatule police station on May 5, 2026, alleging that unknown individuals had created parody social media accounts impersonating him.
Police said investigators from Kiwatule coordinated with officers in Iganga and used GPS tracking technology to trace and apprehend the suspects. Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the arrests, saying the trio is currently detained at Iganga Central police station.
“The suspects were using fake social media accounts to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public,” Kasadha said.
He added that the accounts were also being used to disseminate blackmail material and defamatory content targeting the individuals being impersonated. During a search at the suspects’ residence, police reportedly recovered three smartphones and other items believed to have evidential value.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mugoya allegedly operated two TikTok accounts under the names “Natasha Karugire” and “The first daughter Natasha mus.”
Kyakatuka is said to have used a Samsung mobile phone to run four TikTok accounts, including “janet.kataha.muse5,” “natashakar7,” “first.daughter767,” and “ssenga.naisanga.04.”
Police further allege that Isanga, who reportedly used a Samsung S10 handset, operated a TikTok account under the name “NATASHA.K MUSEVENI SOUL.”
The suspects are being held on allegations of impersonation and spreading harmful propaganda. Kasadha said the trio will be transferred to Kiwatule police station for further interrogation and prosecution as investigations continue.
