A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Minister of Police Affairs, Humphrey Abah, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his interpretation of court judgments relating to the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
Responding to Wike’s recent remarks on the PDP’s leadership structure, Abah accused the FCT Minister of selectively interpreting the Supreme Court ruling to support his position. He maintained that the PDP should instead focus on preparing for electoral success rather than being distracted by internal disputes.
Wike had earlier argued that the Supreme Court judgment had effectively resolved the PDP leadership crisis, insisting that it settled the dispute over the party’s legitimate leadership. However, Abah disagreed, describing Wike’s interpretation as one-sided and politically motivated.
“Wike is selectively reading those judgments to suit his position. We are reading holistically; we are not selecting”.
He stressed that the PDP remains committed to legal and constitutional processes and prefers to address its challenges through due process rather than confrontation.
Abah further emphasized that the party’s priority should be the 2027 general elections, not ongoing internal disagreements. He called on party members to strengthen the PDP’s structure, improve organization, and prepare strategically for the elections.
“Rather than getting distracted by personal disputes, our energy should be focused on how to organize and win elections”, he said, dismissing the internal tensions as unnecessary distractions.
On the issue of leadership within the party, Abah reiterated that the PDP’s strength lies in its constitutional framework, noting that statutory organs such as the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) are empowered to manage its affairs.
He concluded by insisting that any disputes within the party should be resolved through legal and constitutional means, rather than public confrontations or political maneuvering.
