Despite a spirited effort from Vincent Kompany’s squad, Gerrard believes the tactical superiority and defensive discipline displayed by the Ligue 1 champions ultimately separated the two sides.
Reflecting on the two-legged saga for TNT Sports, the iconic midfielder noted that while the initial encounter was a high-scoring offensive battle, the return leg showcased a different, more resolute side of the French club.
“Over the two legs, PSG deserved to go through to the final,” Gerrard told TNT Sports. “The first leg was a shootout, but they got their heads in front, and tonight was a defensive masterclass. Bayern Munich played their part in the tie, but the best team has gone through. PSG had the edge over them.”
