Ademola Lookman will be looking to break his scoring drought against Arsenal as Atlético Madrid head to London for the decisive second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final clash on Tuesday.
The contest is evenly poised at 1-1 after the first leg in Madrid, with both teams battling for a spot in the final set for May 30 in Budapest, where either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain will be waiting.
Despite not recording a goal or assist in six previous encounters with Arsenal, Lookman remains a key figure in Atlético’s attacking setup, having delivered a strong showing in the opening leg.
The Nigerian forward completed 95 per cent of his passes in the attacking half, attempted four shots with two on target, and also made defensive contributions in a display that drew commendation.
Simeone highlighted the forward’s all-round contribution in the first leg, particularly his defensive effort, noting that the player is increasingly adapting to the team’s tactical demands.
“I loved Lookman’s game; we’re getting an important player to understand that his defensive work helps us,” Simeone said.
The Atlético manager also pointed to Arsenal’s strength in depth and consistency, describing the Premier League side as a difficult opponent.
