Nigeria’s foreign missions are set for a fresh phase of diplomatic engagement as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commenced the induction of newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners-designate ahead of their deployment.
The programme is designed to prepare the envoys for international assignments by deepening their understanding of Nigeria’s foreign policy direction, diplomatic protocols, and consular responsibilities.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the appointments reflect the confidence of President Bola Tinubu in the nominees, urging them to effectively represent Nigeria’s interests under the administration’s 4D foreign policy strategy.
She highlighted economic diplomacy, including attracting foreign investment, expanding trade and tourism, and supporting national economic diversification, as key priorities for the new envoys.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu also stressed the importance of consular services, noting that Nigerians abroad must feel the presence and protection of their government through responsive missions.
The presidency had approved the appointment of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners, following the recall of previous envoys in 2023. The ministry said 33 of the nominees have already received accreditation from host countries, while others are still awaiting approval before taking up their postings.
