The police in Busoga North, Kaliro district has mounted a search for Afuwa Namugwano over allegedly killing her two-year-old stepson, Rahim Kivuluga.
It is alleged that Namugwano’s husband, Awali Balikowa was concerned about Kivuluga’s whereabouts, only to be told he had slept at a distant relative’s home. Balikowa says that Namugwano quietly escaped from their home at night, raising suspicion about her involvement in the disappearance of Kivuluga.
Balikowa then reported the matter to their area LC I chairperson, Swaibu Gabudyeli, informing him that his child had suspiciously disappeared from home, urging him to launch a comprehensive search in the area.
Gabudyeli ran announcements over three community radios in the major trading centers within Bukamba sub-county to no avail. He then notified police about the incident, and a canine unit was dispatched to intensify the search for the missing child all over the village.
The sniffer dog was later stationed at a man-made well behind Balikowa’s house, from where Kivuluga’s lifeless body was retrieved. The investigating team led by the OC CID of Kaliro central police station, Marble Tweheyo says that, preliminary enquiries indicate that Kivuluga was firstly strangled before being dumped in the water well.
Tweheyo also says that Namugwano has been named as the prime suspect in this matter, and efforts of tracing her whereabouts are ongoing. Tweheyo says that the deceased’s body has been taken to Bumanya health center IV mortuary for postmortem.
