Local media outlets in Iran have reported that a United States Navy vessel was struck by two missiles near the strategic Strait of Hormuz after allegedly ignoring warnings from Iranian naval forces.
According to Fars News Agency, which cited local sources in southern Iran, the incident occurred on Monday near the port city of Jask as the vessel attempted to transit through the narrow waterway.
The report alleged that the ship had “violated navigation and shipping security” and continued its course despite warnings issued by Iran’s naval forces.
It further claimed that the US vessel was subsequently targeted in a missile strike and was unable to proceed on its planned route.
Following the incident, the same sources stated that the vessel was forced to turn back and withdraw from the area.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly maintained that all maritime traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz must be coordinated with its relevant agencies, warning that failure to comply would trigger what it describes as a decisive response from its armed forces.
There has been no immediate confirmation from United States officials regarding the reported incident, and no information has been released about possible damage or casualties.
