The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira, has officially withdrawn from the race for the Southern Borno Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Friday, Askira said his decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the nine local government areas of Southern Borno, as well as a high-level meeting with the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum.
According to him, the move was taken in the overall interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Southern Borno, and the state at large.
Askira also declared his full support for the incumbent senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, urging his supporters to rally behind him in unity and good faith.
“I wholeheartedly endorse Senator Ndume and call on all my supporters to close ranks and give him their unflinching support,” he stated.
The Deputy Speaker further appealed to party faithful to work collectively towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections, emphasizing that political power ultimately rests with God.
He expressed deep appreciation to his supporters, campaign team, and media aides for their loyalty, sacrifice, and commitment throughout the period of his consultations.
Askira also extended his gratitude to the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, Governor Zulum, members of the Borno State House of Assembly, and other stakeholders across Southern Borno for their encouragement and confidence in his political journey.
He concluded with prayers for peace and continued progress in Southern Borno, Borno State, and Nigeria as a whole.
