Nigerian actor and former reality TV star Saga Adeoluwa has shared his perspective on performing kissing scenes in films, describing the experience as uncomfortable and often misunderstood.
Speaking on the Nolly Icons podcast, Adeoluwa said many actors do not enjoy such scenes despite public assumptions. According to him, onscreen intimacy is typically carried out to serve the storyline rather than for personal pleasure.
He revealed that, in his experience, kissing scenes have never been pleasant, even after appearing in multiple romantic productions.
“It is not easy to kiss another actor. It is weird. I have not really had any good onscreen kiss,” he said.
Adeoluwa explained that the physical nature of the act, particularly the exchange of saliva, makes it uncomfortable for performers. He added that audiences often misinterpret these scenes, assuming actors enjoy them.
“It is not something we enjoy. People think we enjoy it, but we don’t. We are just doing it for the story most times,” he said.
The actor also disclosed that he once had to kiss four different actresses in a single day while filming, highlighting the demanding nature of such roles.
While acknowledging that some viewers may judge actors for participating in intimate scenes, Adeoluwa argued that performers deserve recognition for their professionalism.
“If I had my way, I won’t kiss anyone in a film… I don’t blame anybody for judging us but they should applaud us instead,” he added.
His comments shed light on the realities of acting in Nollywood, particularly the challenges that come with portraying romance on screen.
