Claims that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign over health concerns have been rejected by the state government.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the government said the report circulated by an online platform was entirely fabricated and should be disregarded.
It stressed that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally sound, and fully engaged in the discharge of his official duties.
“We have noted with concern a false report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’ with the Deputy Governor set to take over. This claim has no basis in fact”, the statement read.
The government also clarified a recent meeting between the Governor and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, noting that it was a routine engagement.
“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was cordial, as is customary”, it added.
The statement urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as fake news intended to cause confusion.
It reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains fully engaged in governance and continues to discharge his responsibilities without interruption.
