Residents of Hahoola village in Butaleja District are in shock following a tragic incident in which a 31-year-old woman stabbed her two children before taking her own life.
The deceased, identified as Rebecca Mbula Kalivamudhi, is alleged to have attacked her children with a knife before collapsing in the compound after ingesting poison. The children were later found lying in a pool of blood by community members who responded to an alarm.
They are currently in critical condition. According to her mother-in-law, Esther Mugeragi, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute, with claims that Kalivamudhi had been distressed after her husband reportedly married another wife and neglected his responsibilities.
Hundreds of residents gathered at the home of the late John Mugeragi in Hahoola village, Busaba sub-county, to confirm the incident, which occurred on Tuesday. Geoffrey Bongo, a brother of the deceased, expressed regret over the tragedy and urged couples facing marital challenges to seek counselling or spiritual support.
Kalivamudhi’s husband, Benjamin Wanamiriye, a teacher at Busolwe secondary school and Busaba Seed School, declined to comment by press time, citing grief.
