The Chairman of Bayelsa United, Tarilaya Nwankwe, has expressed unwavering confidence in his team’s ability to retain their top-flight status, dismissing fears of a descent into the Nigeria National League (NNL). Currently positioned in 19th place within the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings with a total of 40 points, the “Prosperity Boys” find themselves in the heart of a high-stakes battle to avoid the drop, with four clubs slated for relegation at the end of the campaign.
The road to safety remains steep, as Bayelsa United must navigate a challenging series of final fixtures against powerhouse opponents including Rangers, Remo Stars, and Kwara United. Despite the caliber of the opposition, Nwankwe remains optimistic about the club’s prospects, emphasizing that the squad is mentally prepared to secure the results necessary for survival.
Speaking with Completesports, the club executive chose to focus on the ultimate objective rather than the specifics of the upcoming tactical battles.
“We won’t go down, that’s what I want to say,” Nwankwe asserted during the interview. “We have three games remaining and, without predicting how the matches will go, what I want to assure you is that we won’t be relegated.”
As the NPFL season reaches its frantic conclusion, the pressure on the Yenagoa-based side continues to mount. However, Nwankwe’s public guarantee serves as a rallying cry for the players and supporters alike, suggesting a deep-seated belief that the club possesses the resilience required to pull off a successful escape and remain among Nigeria’s footballing elite for the next season.
