Authorities in Plateau State have filed criminal charges against five suspects linked to the March 2026 deadly attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the suspects were arrested by the Department of State Services between April 3 and April 10, 2026, before being formally charged with criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and other related offences.
Those charged include Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (also known as Auwalu Dogo), Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (also known as Yaroro), among others, who are alleged to have coordinated and supported the deadly assault.
Court filings by the Plateau State Attorney General, Philemon Daffi, indicate that the accused persons acted contrary to Sections 269 and 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017.
The charge alleges that the defendants conspired to carry out acts of terrorism by planning, financing, and facilitating the attack on Angwan Rukuba, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than 30 people.
Another suspect, Adamu Isa Alhassan, is additionally facing charges of culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in arms and ammunition. He is accused of participating in armed attacks on communities in Riyom and Jos South Local Government Areas.
The prosecutions come amid renewed efforts by authorities to bring perpetrators of violent attacks in Plateau State to justice.
The March 28 incident left at least 30 people dead, including children, following coordinated assaults on communities in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs.
Reacting to the tragedy, Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attacks, describing them as deliberate attempts to destabilise the state. He insisted that despite the violence, “life must go on” and called for sustained resilience from residents.
President Bola Tinubu, who visited the state shortly after the incident, met with victims and pledged that those responsible would be brought to justice. He also urged residents to remain vigilant while assuring continued federal support toward restoring peace in the state.
