The Nigerian Government says recent operations by the Nigerian military demonstrate sustained gains in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other crimes.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in an article, said the developments reflect what he described as the “heroic exploits” of the armed forces across the country.
He said his intervention was aimed at countering narratives that downplay the achievements of security forces, noting that troops have continued to record successes against bandits, kidnappers, terrorists and other armed groups.
Onanuga cited the rescue of 13 kidnapped passengers in Benue State by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, as well as arrests of suspected militia fighters in Plateau and Benue states.
According to him, the operations highlight ongoing gains in what he described as an asymmetric war against non-state actors operating across different regions of the country.
He also referenced multiple security reports detailing military interventions in Benue, Plateau, Borno, Yobe, Edo, Sokoto, Kogi and Imo states, including rescue missions, arrests and recovery of arms and ammunition.
Onanuga said troops have continued to respond swiftly to distress calls, repel attacks and dismantle criminal networks, stressing that many of their successes often go underreported.
While acknowledging that security challenges persist, he maintained that the armed forces are making sacrifices and recording significant progress in restoring peace.
He added that what the military and government require is support and recognition rather than criticism, insisting that troops remain committed to defending the country.
