Several youths took to the streets in Kiritiri town, Embu County, to protest the high fuel prices in the country.
They barricaded the Kiritiri – Embu road and lit bonfires, causing a major traffic jam in the area.
Tension mounted as the whistle-blowing youths harassed motorists as traders hurriedly closed their businesses, fearing looting.
The protestors demanded that the government urgently intervenes to bring down the cost of living and end the suffering of Kenyans.
“The increase of fuel prices is making things worse for Kenyans,â one of young man said.
In Embu town, anti riot police engaged hundreds of protestors in running battles.
The youths held demonstrations for the better part of the afternoon, over the skyrocketing fuel prices.
They caused chaos in the Central Business District, forcing traders to close their businesses in panic.
As the youths blocked roads, police officers arrived and ordered them to disperse but they defied.
It was then that the police charged at the crowd and fierce battle broke out, causing tension in the area.
Traders and residents retreated to safety, leaving the town deserted.
