Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended his nephew, Afrobeats star Davido, for promoting the family name and the state on the global stage.
The governor’s praise followed Davido’s appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California, where he delivered a performance that highlighted his cultural roots.
Taking to X, Adeleke described the outing as a proud moment, noting that the singer continues to elevate Osun State and their shared heritage internationally.
Davido’s set on the Gobi Stage featured a traditional Yoruba orĂkì—a form of praise poetry—celebrating Ede, his hometown in Osun. The performance incorporated vibrant visuals, pyrotechnics, and coordinated stage elements that complemented the cultural display.
He was the only Nigerian artist listed on the official lineup for the 2026 edition of the festival. During his performance, Davido delivered several of his popular tracks, including Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, If, and With You.
The singer also shared the stage with Adekunle Gold, performing their collaborative hit High to an enthusiastic audience.
The performance has since drawn attention for its blend of contemporary Afrobeats and traditional Yoruba elements, reinforcing Davido’s role in taking Nigerian music and culture to a global audience.
