Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has announced a N5 million reward for information that could lead to the recovery of eight mobile phones stolen during a private football session in Ikoyi.
In a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, the entertainer said the incident occurred during the group’s regular Wednesday evening game on April 15, 2026.
Bakassi explained that an unknown individual joined the match and was allowed to play in good faith. However, the situation took a turn when the individual reportedly left the pitch after a short time, claiming to have sustained an injury.
While the game continued, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the distraction to steal eight phones belonging to players before fleeing the venue.
The comedian noted that the stolen devices belong to business owners who rely heavily on their phones for daily operations, making the situation particularly urgent.
He warned members of the public, especially those in the second-hand phone market, to exercise caution, suggesting the suspect might attempt to sell the devices quickly at reduced prices.
Bakassi confirmed that the police have been notified and are already working to track down the suspect, though he declined to provide details of the ongoing investigation.
He also issued a 24-hour deadline for the return of the stolen phones to the venue’s security post, warning that failure to comply would lead to intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the individual involved.
In addition, the comedian appealed to the public for assistance, promising a N5 million reward to anyone who can help trace any of the missing devices.
He further advised buyers of used phones to verify sellers’ identities carefully to avoid unknowingly purchasing stolen property.
