The Vatican has pushed back following criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump of Pope Leo XIV, saying the pontiff remains committed to speaking out on global conflicts and moral issues.
Speaking to journalists aboard a flight to Algeria on Monday, the pontiff said he has no fear of the Trump administration and will continue to speak boldly in line with the message of the Gospel.
He also reacted to the criticism posted on Truth Social, describing it as ironic, in a subtle jab at the name of the platform.
The exchange comes after the pope urged global leaders to end ongoing violence, warning against what he called a “delusion of omnipotence” driving conflicts around the world.
In response, Trump criticised the pontiff on social media, describing him as “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”, amid disagreements over U.S. actions in countries including Iran and Venezuela.
