The ongoing defections of politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have drawn a reaction from former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who says the trend is tied to expectations surrounding the 2027 elections.
Tambuwal made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to journalists after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state congress held in Sokoto.
He alleged that the wave of defections is driven more by political insecurity than by any improvement in governance performance.
According to him, some political actors believe the 2027 elections could be influenced in favour of the ruling party, a perception he said is shaping current alignments.
However, Tambuwal insisted that no individual or group can determine or manipulate the outcome of the next general elections, stressing that Nigerians will ultimately decide.
He dismissed claims that results could be predetermined, describing such suggestions as unrealistic.
The former governor also referenced his political history, noting that he has consistently stood by his principles even when it meant disagreeing with sitting administrations.
He further expressed confidence in the electoral process, insisting that citizens remain alert and decisive in protecting their democratic choices.
Tambuwal said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) remains focused on offering an alternative platform capable of addressing national challenges, including insecurity and governance issues.
He urged party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, the ADC concluded its state congress in Sokoto with the election of new executives, as party leaders called for cohesion and grassroots mobilisation.
The party says the new leadership will work to expand its structure and deepen its presence across Sokoto State.
