Amid renewed military pressure on insurgent networks in northeastern Nigeria, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has warned residents against aiding or supporting Boko Haram elements.
The governor’s message follows a recent air operation by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which struck targets in the Jilli area of Gubio Local Government Area.
Jilli, a border community linking Borno and Yobe states, has long been under surveillance for suspected insurgent activities and supply movements.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the Jilli market as a key location allegedly exploited by insurgents and their logistics networks.
He emphasized that both Jilli and nearby Gazabure markets had been officially shut down years ago as part of efforts to disrupt insurgent operations and cut off support channels.
The governor also noted ongoing consultations with neighbouring Yobe State authorities and military leadership to ensure coordinated security responses in the region.
Reaffirming his administration’s strategy, Zulum stressed that any decision to reopen communities or markets would only follow thorough security assessments and clearance from relevant agencies.
He called on residents to remain alert and law-abiding, urging them to share timely and credible intelligence with security forces to strengthen ongoing counterinsurgency efforts.
Authorities say community cooperation remains critical in dismantling insurgent networks and restoring lasting peace across Borno State.
