The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has levied a series of punitive measures against Nasarawa United following a turbulent Matchday 33 clash with Kun Khalifat FC. The league’s governing body determined that the Lafia-based club violated established regulatory frameworks and safety protocols, primarily due to a failure to maintain a secure environment during the encounter.
Investigations by the league board revealed that insufficient security measures allowed unauthorized individuals to infiltrate restricted zones of the stadium. This breach led to a hostile atmosphere where supporters reportedly threw dangerous projectiles at match officials. Furthermore, the league cited instances of extreme harassment, documenting that the officiating crew was forcibly detained and held hostage for approximately 20 minutes following the game.
Financially, the “Solid Miners” have been hit with a cumulative fine of N4 million. This total is comprised of individual N1 million penalties for the security failure, the act of throwing dangerous objects, general unsporting behavior, and the misconduct of fans that resulted in the intimidation of officials.
Beyond the monetary penalties, Nasarawa United has been ordered to host their next two home fixtures behind closed doors, excluding their supporters from the stands. The club has been granted a 48-hour window to either submit a formal appeal against these findings or accept the disciplinary actions in their entirety.
