Following the terrorist attack on a military camp in Benisheikh, Borno State, President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian troops not to lose heart as they continue operations across various theatres.
The President expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who were killed in the coordinated attack, which was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters on April 9, 2026.
One of those killed was Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, the Commandant of the Task Force Brigade.
Tinubu praised the bravery and sacrifice of the troops who fought to repel the attackers and prevent Boko Haram insurgents from overrunning the communities under their protection.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the military leadership and families of the fallen soldiers, urging them to take solace in their sacrifice.
While mourning the deceased, the President called on the Armed Forces and frontline troops to remain steadfast and draw strength from the nation’s appreciation of their service.
“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation”, he said.
Tinubu added that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers would not be in vain, stressing that Nigeria’s resolve to defeat terrorism remains strong.
He urged the Military High Command and troops in all theatres of operation to remain disciplined, courageous and committed, assuring continued government support in terms of equipment and welfare.
The President also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military and avoid actions that could undermine their efforts, describing the fallen soldiers as heroes.
He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, pledging continued collaboration to achieve lasting peace and security in the region.
