The Nigerian DJ Association has instructed its members to temporarily remove Burna Boy songs from their playlists while a probe is conducted into a reported altercation with DJ Tunez at a Lagos nightclub.
Eyewitnesses reported that a disagreement between Burna Boy’s crew and DJ Tunez escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving the DJ assaulted.
In an Instagram statement, the NDJ expressed solidarity with DJ Tunez and reminded DJs nationwide of the importance of professionalism, fairness, and vigilance at events. The association emphasised equality among DJs and condemned hostility, noting a commitment to fostering a safe and respectful entertainment environment.
The statement read in part, “Please note: Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL,’ and offering a transparent, personal service to help our DJs and clients achieve their goals and ambitions, both at home and in the Diaspora.”
The NDJ also called on its members to reject discrimination based on caste, creed, religion, gender, or background, stressing that the protection of rights and dignity within the DJ community is fundamental to progress in Nigeria’s music scene.
“Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice. Our team will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred last night involving one of our own, DJ Tunez,” the statement added.
As of now, Burna Boy’s management has not issued an official comment regarding the incident. The investigation by the NDJ is ongoing, and DJs across Nigeria have been advised to exercise caution and maintain respect toward all artists during events.
