Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has outlined strict personal boundaries in her relationships, stating that no man is permitted to visit her home unless they are legally married.
In a recent interview, the actress stressed the importance of commitment and responsibility, noting that any potential partner must demonstrate seriousness before gaining access to her private space.
Bakare maintained that she expects a man to take the lead in a relationship, including fulfilling traditional obligations such as paying her bride price.
She also shared her perspective on love, explaining that her approach to relationships is rooted more in respect and appreciation than emotional attachment.
“I don’t love,” she said. “I like, I appreciate and respect, but I don’t like love.”
According to her, while she is open to spending time at a partner’s residence, the same privilege does not extend to her home without formal commitment.
“We can do anything in his house, but if he wants to come to my house, he should pay the bride price,” she said, adding that a man must prove readiness for responsibility.
Bakare further emphasised that she prefers a traditional dynamic where the man takes initiative in building a home, rather than the reverse.
Her remarks have sparked conversations around modern relationships, personal boundaries, and evolving expectations within Nigerian society.
