A new exchange of hostile rhetoric has emerged between Washington and Tehran as both sides trade threats over the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region.
U.S. President Donald Trump has said there is a “good chance” of reaching a deal with Tehran, shortly after warning of possible strikes on Iran’s power infrastructure and bridges if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump issued a strongly worded message, warning that Iran would face severe consequences if the strategic waterway is not reopened to international shipping.
He also referenced planned military actions for Tuesday, which he described as targeting “power plants and bridges.”
“Open the f—ing Strait, you crazy b——, or you’ll be living in Hell—just watch,” Trump wrote, adding later: “Praise be to Allah”.
In response, Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf mocked the United States, sharing images on social media of wreckage from a US military aircraft reportedly destroyed near Isfahan during a rescue mission.
Qalibaf said if the United States achieved “three more victories” like that, it would face serious consequences, adding that Washington’s actions were pushing the region toward greater instability.
He also accused the U.S. of following Israel’s direction and warned that continued escalation could have severe consequences for the wider Middle East.
