Werder Bremen’s manager, Daniel Thioune, has voiced his confidence that Victor Boniface will become a pivotal figure in the team’s quest for Bundesliga safety. According to reports, the coach is eyeing a late-season impact from the striker as the club readies itself for a high-stakes clash with RB Leipzig this weekend.
The upcoming match at the Weserstadion is a high-pressure affair. Currently, Bremen maintains a narrow four-point lead over the relegation play-off position. With the campaign reaching its final stretch, the club is under immense pressure to deliver consistent results to guarantee their place in the top tier for next year.
With only seven fixtures left on the calendar, the value of every point is magnified, especially when facing a formidable opponent like Leipzig. During his pre-match briefing, Thioune clarified that while Boniface is unavailable for this specific weekend, the objective is to have the forward back on the pitch before the season concludes.
The Nigerian attacker has been sidelined for a quarter of a year after undergoing knee surgery in January. This injury interrupted a productive loan period and occurred just before Thioune took the reins in February 2026, following the dismissal of Horst Steffen.
Reflecting on their recent interactions, Thioune expressed his satisfaction with the player’s mindset.
“First of all, I’m happy to have met him,” Thioune said. “We had a long talk, and he indicated that he wants to help us in our fight to stay in the league.”
