A United States-based diaspora group, Plateau State Association USA, Inc. (PSA-USA), has condemned the recent killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as tragic, unacceptable, and requiring urgent government intervention.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, the organisation said the recurring violence underscores deep concerns about the effectiveness of current security arrangements in preventing and responding to attacks.
The National President of PSA-USA, Barth Shepkong, said the situation reflects the need for stronger coordination, improved intelligence gathering, and faster response mechanisms.
“The continued loss of innocent lives under recurring circumstances underscores the urgent need for more proactive, coordinated, and effective security measures”, he said.
The group called on the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to halt the cycle of violence in Plateau State.
It stressed that safeguarding lives remains the foremost responsibility of any government.
“The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government. We urge the President and the Federal Government to act with urgency and resolve”, the statement added.
PSA-USA warned that repeated attacks, especially where warning signs are evident, should no longer be allowed to escalate unchecked.
“Where early warning signs exist, they must be matched with early and effective action”, it said.
The association also renewed its call for comprehensive security reforms, including the establishment of state police, arguing that Nigeria’s current security structure is overstretched and increasingly ineffective against localised threats.
“The current security structure is no longer sufficient to address localised and evolving threats”, the group noted.
It further demanded accountability for perpetrators, insisting that those responsible for the attacks must be swiftly identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
“Accountability is essential to breaking this cycle of violence”, it added.
PSA-USA also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, lawmakers, and security agencies in Plateau State to work together in addressing the crisis and protecting vulnerable communities.
“This is a moment for collective leadership and urgent action to restore public confidence and security”, it said.
The group warned that continued delays in response could further undermine trust in government institutions and worsen insecurity in affected areas.
Reaffirming its commitment, PSA-USA said it will continue to advocate for sustainable peace, security reforms, and improved governance in Plateau State while standing in solidarity with affected communities.
