World Cup winner and former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has suggested that a trio of cornerstone players could be nearing the end of their tenure at Stamford Bridge. Petit identified Enzo Fernández, Cole Palmer, and Moisés Caicedo as the individuals most likely to seek a departure during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to the Frenchman, these key figures have grown increasingly disillusioned with the club’s current trajectory, a sentiment reportedly exacerbated by Chelsea’s recent humiliating 8-2 aggregate exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona star noted that the body language of these elite talents following their European capitulation signaled a profound lack of confidence in the club’s sporting project. Despite the unprecedented financial investment made by the West London hierarchy, the team has struggled to convert high spending into competitive consistency. Petit argues that players of this caliber are driven by the ambition to secure major silverware—a goal that currently feels distant given the prevailing atmosphere at the club.
Speaking via BetGoat as reported by Metro UK, Petit highlighted that the “spine” of the team appeared visually drained and questioning their long-term commitment to the Blues’ cause.
“When you look at the faces, you know, straight after the game (Chelsea vs PSG Champions League Round of 16 second-leg), the spine of the team, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer,” Petit told BetGoat via Metro UK.
“When you look at their faces, they feel lost, thinking, ‘Am I right to stay at this club? Am I going to leave the club at the end of the season? I’m tired of what’s happening at the club.’
“Those guys want to win a trophy. We saw that last season. But this team should be among the best teams in the Premier League, but also in Europe, with the money they have spent and the players they have, you should compete for the best prizes.”
