Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has described herself as emotionally intense in relationships, admitting she loves deeply but can also cut people off when necessary.
Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, Akindele said her personality is shaped by a strong sense of passion, though she recognises the importance of maintaining balance.
“I’m an extremist. I love so hard. I’m real. I’m like this. I’m not perfect,” she said, adding that while she embraces her authenticity, she is also aware of her flaws.
The actress acknowledged that her approach can sometimes come across as tough, noting that she is learning to manage her reactions and interactions with others more carefully.
She credited fellow actor Uzee Usman for helping her reflect on her behaviour, recalling a conversation in which he advised her to be more accommodating and avoid shutting people out too quickly. According to Akindele, the advice prompted her to pause and reassess her approach to relationships.
Akindele also shared insights from her late mother, who often reminded her that not everyone operates at the same pace or level of understanding. She said those words continue to guide her as she works on becoming more patient and balanced.
Emphasising the importance of emotional well-being, the actress said she now prioritises her mental health while navigating personal and professional relationships.
“Human relationships are very important to me, and I’m learning every day,” she said. “But no matter what happens, my mental health is very important.”
Her remarks come amid recent public attention following an incident involving fellow actress Toyin Abraham at a film premiere, which sparked conversations online.
