Nigerian rapper Dremo has expressed disappointment over what he considers a lack of recognition for his talent within the country’s music industry.
Speaking during an appearance on the Echo Room podcast, the former Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) signee said his abilities, particularly in the studio, are often overlooked.
“I feel like I am so underrated. People don’t know what I can do in the studio… Dem no rate me at all,” he said.
Despite his concerns, Dremo noted that he has embraced his position as an underdog, suggesting that it motivates him to keep pushing his craft.
The rapper attributed the situation partly to what he described as limited appreciation for rap music in Nigeria, where genres like Afrobeats and pop dominate mainstream attention.
He also reflected on his time under Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), stating that the experience did not fully meet his expectations. According to him, the label’s strong focus on its founder, Davido, made it difficult for other artists to gain comparable visibility and growth.
Dremo’s comments add to ongoing conversations about the challenges faced by rap artists in Nigeria, as well as the dynamics within major record labels in the industry.
