President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured residents of Jos that the recent deadly attack in the city will not happen again, following an incident that left at least 28 people dead and 22 others injured.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Thursday during a visit to Plateau State, where he met with government officials, traditional rulers, and families affected by the violence.
Addressing victims, the President acknowledged the depth of their loss, stating that no financial compensation could replace the lives lost. He offered condolences and pledged government support to those impacted by the tragedy.
Speaking emotionally about a viral video showing a grieving mother holding her deceased son, Tinubu said he understood her pain and prayed for divine comfort for the family. He reiterated that the government would provide support, even as he admitted that material assistance could not undo the loss.
The President stressed that restoring lasting peace in Jos remains a top priority, noting that the city must return to its former state of unity and stability.
He also reminded political leaders of their responsibility to deliver on campaign promises, particularly in ensuring security and inclusive governance. According to him, the goal of his administration is not merely to console victims but to prevent further violence and rebuild trust among residents.
“I don’t want to be here merely commiserating,” the President said during the visit. “I want to be here to establish peace.”
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, with authorities under pressure to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities.
