The organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have announced nominees for the 12th edition, with Gingerrr and The Herd emerging as frontrunners, each securing nine nominations.
The nominations were revealed during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels on Sunday, hosted by actor Chimezie Imo.
Close behind are To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations and My Father’s Shadow, which earned seven nods, highlighting a competitive field across major categories.
This year’s nominations reflect a significant stride in African film and television, marked by stronger storytelling, improved technical quality, and a broader range of narratives shaping the industry.
Both Gingerrr and The Herd enjoyed commercial success following their release in late 2025, with their multiple nominations underscoring their influence and reception among audiences.
In the acting categories, Sola Sobowale stands out with nominations in both lead and supporting roles. Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji also earned multiple nominations, reinforcing their strong presence this year.
Meanwhile, Genoveva Umeh secured a Best Lead Actress nomination, a milestone that positions her as one of the rising talents to watch.
Voting for audience-selected categories opened at 8:00 p.m. on March 29 via the official AMVCA website.
The awards feature a total of 32 categories, including 18 decided by a jury, 11 determined by public voting, and three special recognition awards.
The 12th AMVCA ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026, and is expected to celebrate outstanding achievements across Africa’s film and television landscape.
