The central African nation reached this decisive stage after eliminating Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a high-stakes playoff final last November. While many Nigerian fans remain disappointed by that outcome, Udeze believes that seeing the team that halted Nigeria’s journey go on to succeed on the world stage could provide a necessary reality check for the current crop of Super Eagles players.
Should DR Congo emerge victorious tonight, it would mark their second-ever qualification for the tournament, ending a 52-year drought that dates back to the 1974 edition in West Germany. Speaking on Brila FM, Udeze explained that his stance is rooted in a desire for the Nigerian squad to reflect on the gravity of missing out on such a prestigious competition.
”I am supporting DR Congo to be at the World Cup because I want the Super Eagles players to understand what it means to qualify for a big tournament like the World Cup, especially seeing that the team that knocked you out eventually picked the ticket,” Udeze told Brila FM.
