Lagos taxpayers get extra time as agency pushes for error-free, fully digital submissions……
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14, offering relief to taxpayers who were originally expected to meet a March 31 cutoff.
The extension was confirmed in a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, quoting the Executive Chairman, Ayodele Subair.
Subair explained that the additional two weeks are intended to give individuals sufficient time to complete and submit their returns accurately, reducing the risk of errors.
He urged taxpayers to treat compliance as a routine responsibility, stressing the importance of timely and correct submissions.
e-Filing Remains Mandatory
The LIRS reiterated that all tax returns must be filed electronically, as manual submissions have now been fully phased out.
Taxpayers are required to use the agency’s eTax platform, which officials describe as secure, user-friendly, and available around the clock.
In addition, filers have been advised to ensure their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered to avoid processing issues.
For those experiencing difficulties, the agency encouraged individuals to visit any LIRS office or use its official communication channels for assistance.
What This Means for Taxpayers
With the new April 14 deadline in place, Lagos residents now have a final window to regularise their tax filings without penalties.
However, officials warn that the extension should not be seen as an excuse for delay, but rather an opportunity to submit complete and error-free returns through the approved digital system.
