The Plateau State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities across Plateau State, recording a series of major arrests involving a suspected kidnap kingpin, alleged arms traffickers, robbery suspects, and other criminal elements in coordinated operations across the state.
Briefing journalists in Jos, Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah said the breakthroughs were achieved through intelligence-led operations and increased cooperation from residents.
“These achievements underscore our determination to rid Plateau State of criminal elements. We remain committed to protecting lives and property at all times,” Ewah stated.
Suspected Kidnap Kingpin Arrested
Among the most significant arrests was that of Aminu Adamu, identified by police as the alleged leader of a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorising communities in Bassa Local Government Area.
According to the police commissioner, the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence and is currently in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
“Following actionable intelligence, we apprehended one Aminu Adamu, a suspected kidnap kingpin operating in Bassa LGA. He will be charged to court once investigations are concluded,” he said.
Anti-Kidnapping Unit Arrests Two More Suspects
In a related operation, the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Prince Bernard Bassey and Sunday Laraba over the abduction of a victim along the Qua’an Pan axis.
Police said several items, including mobile phones, SIM cards, and other materials suspected to be connected to criminal activity, were recovered during the operation.
Gun Runners Nabbed With AK-47 Rifle
The command also recorded a major breakthrough in its campaign against illegal arms proliferation with the arrest of three suspects — Taimako Luwe, Korbe Gobakji, and Nandang Zingchang — who were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and live ammunition.
“One of the suspects confessed ownership of the weapons and admitted purchasing them in Vom before distributing them to his accomplices. Investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the network,” Ewah disclosed.
More Weapons Recovered in Separate Operations
In another operation, police arrested Mamman Bello in Bokkos Local Government Area with a revolver and live cartridges.
Similarly, Sunday Ahmadu was apprehended in Jos North after officers recovered a locally fabricated firearm from him following a tip-off from a resident.
“This arrest was made possible through credible intelligence from a concerned citizen, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in combating insecurity,” the CP noted.
Armed Robbery and Human Trafficking Cases Uncovered
In Shendam Local Government Area, police arrested Nanbut Hosea in connection with an armed robbery incident involving the theft of a motorcycle, farm produce, livestock, and cash.
The command also uncovered a suspected human trafficking operation involving a suspect accused of luring young women with promises of jobs abroad, only to force them into commercial sex work in Ghana.
Sexual Offence Suspects Also Arrested
Police further confirmed arrests linked to rape and abuse of minors in different parts of the state, adding that all suspects remain under investigation.
“All suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations. We will not relent until justice is served,” Ewah assured.
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely and credible information with security agencies.
“Effective policing requires collective effort. We encourage the public to continue supporting law enforcement through useful intelligence.”
