Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has said Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping crisis management and requires stronger preparedness to harness its benefits.
Tijani made the remark in Lagos at the Crisis Management Advocacy Month Flagship Conference organised by CMC Connect, themed “Crisis Management in the AI Milieu: New Threats, Smarter Responses”.
He said while AI can intensify crises, organisations must be prepared to manage emerging risks, stressing that preparedness remains key to effective response.
According to him, organisations that anticipate and respond effectively to disruptions are better positioned to convert challenges into opportunities for growth and renewal.
He emphasised the role of data and digital tools in modern crisis management, noting that communication strongly shapes public perception and response during crises.
Tijani urged a shift from reactive approaches to predictive and coordinated systems that enable faster and more effective decision-making, while calling for stronger institutional coordination in Nigeria’s crisis response framework.
In his welcome address, Lead Partner of CMC Connect, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, said the organisation has developed a crisis management platform known as CrisisX to help institutions respond more effectively to emerging threats.
He said the platform is designed to improve response speed, protect reputations, and reduce the spread of misinformation in real time.
Badejo-Okusanya warned that false information spreads faster than truth, adding that many organisations remain unprepared for the speed of modern crises.
