Air raid sirens blared across several parts of Israel on Thursday, while explosions echoed through major cities after Iran launched multiple waves of missiles, according to the Israeli military.
Israeli defence authorities said the incoming projectiles were intercepted by air defence systems, though falling debris from the interceptions caused injuries and property damage in several locations.
According to Magen David Adom, seven people were injured by shrapnel following the first missile attack detected early in the morning.
The Israeli military said it recorded seven separate waves of missile launches throughout the day, triggering sirens in central Israel, Jerusalem, Haifa, and parts of the occupied West Bank.
“Defence systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military said in repeated alerts issued during each attack.
Journalists in Tel Aviv reported hearing several loud explosions beginning shortly after dawn, with the first missile warning issued at 6:49 a.m. local time.
Footage from the Tel Aviv area showed a residential building struck by debris believed to have fallen from an intercepted missile.
Images from the scene revealed visible structural damage to an apartment, with metal fragments scattered around the affected building as rescue personnel and medics moved in to assess the situation.
In the central city of Kafr Qasim, emergency officials reported damage to several homes.
Mayor Haitham Taha said the destruction appeared to have been caused by cluster munitions.
Magen David Adom confirmed that six people were wounded in Kafr Qasim, while one additional casualty was recorded in Tel Aviv.
Footage from Kafr Qasim showed a large crater at the impact site, with several vehicles overturned by the force of the blast.
The renewed missile assault came more than 14 hours after Israel last reported incoming fire from Iran, marking another sharp escalation in the regional conflict.
Overnight, central Israel also came under rocket fire from Lebanon after the Iran-backed Hezbollah announced attacks on Israeli military positions.
Israeli media reported that six rockets launched from Lebanon were intercepted.
In a separate military statement, Israel confirmed that one soldier was killed during fighting in southern Lebanon on Thursday.
Since the outbreak of the current Middle East conflict on February 28, the Israeli military says it has lost three soldiers in combat as ground operations in southern Lebanon continue to expand.
