Comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, widely known as Mr Jollof, has apologised for his involvement in a physical confrontation with social media personality VeryDarkMan aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight.
In a video shared on Instagram, Mr Jollof expressed deep regret over the incident, insisting that he is not a violent person and only reacted in self-defence. He extended apologies to the airline, affected passengers, his family, and his employer.
âI want to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the passengers that boarded the airline,â he said. âI was only defending myself. You guys saw what happened, and I am very sorry if I delayed your appointment. This isnât my kind of person. It will never happen again.â
He also addressed his family directly, saying: âTo my lovely wife, I know youâre proud of me. To my kids, I am sorry, Daddy will never do this again. To my boss, I am very sorry. This isnât my kind of person.â
In a written note accompanying the video, he reiterated: âI am not a violent person and I promise such character will never occur again. Although I was under attack, I defended myself.â
The clash, captured on video by fellow passengers, occurred on a flight from Asaba to Lagos and showed both men exchanging blows before they were separated. The altercation led to delays and prompted reactions online, including a follow-up video where VeryDarkMan displayed bite marks, claiming he âdealt withâ the comedian.
Aviation authorities, including the NCAA, are already reviewing the incident as both men continue to face public scrutiny.
