A fresh legal dispute has emerged ahead of the Osun governorship election, with campaign spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi threatening a ₦10 billion lawsuit against Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged defamatory statements.
In a letter dated August 12, Olajengbesi’s lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, said Fadahunsi made the statements during interviews. The lawyer said the remarks questioned Olajengbesi’s identity and accused him of sponsoring members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups.
The letter specifically referenced Fadahunsi’s claim that Olajengbesi was “from somewhere in Ogun State” and his later allegation that he sponsored an Eiye member who was “terrorising” people in the area.
Olajengbesi denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to his personal, professional and political reputation. He also denied ever sponsoring, financing or supporting any cult group or authorising anyone to intimidate or attack members of the public.
His lawyer has demanded an immediate retraction of the statements and an unequivocal public apology through the platforms where the allegations were made.
The letter gives Fadahunsi 24 hours to comply, failing which Olajengbesi says he will institute legal proceedings seeking ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages for defamation and injurious falsehood.
