Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is set to headline a major concert in London on Friday, August 14, just a day before his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeks re-election.
The singer will lead the ‘Davido & Friends’ concert at the Crystal Palace Bowl as part of the Palace Bowl Presents summer festival series in the United Kingdom.
Davido had earlier promoted the event on his social media platforms, describing it as his first festival appearance in the UK and his only outdoor performance in London this summer.
The concert is scheduled to open its doors to attendees at 3:00 p.m., according to the official Palace Bowl Presents website.
Davido will be joined on the lineup by several artistes, including Omah Lay, Black Sherif, Gabzy, T x C, Jazzwrld & Thukuthela, Ecool, Morravey and Boi Chase.
The singer on Wednesday shared promotional artwork for the event on his Instagram Story, displaying a “SOLD OUT” banner as he expressed excitement ahead of the performance.
Concert comes ahead of Osun election
The timing of the London performance has drawn attention because of its proximity to the Osun State governorship election, in which Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking another term in office.
The governor is expected to face his challengers at the polls on Saturday, August 15.
Davido has remained publicly supportive of his uncle, who is seeking to retain the Osun governorship.
While the singer will be performing thousands of kilometres away in London on Friday, attention will turn to Osun the following day as voters decide whether Adeleke will secure another term.
